Illustrating Tomorrow

Observation & Inquiry

Throughout this first year as new Directors, we have remained engaged in a state of observation and reflection.

This journey has involved a deep examination of our identity as an established 23-year-old organization, one that has naturally evolved throughout its history. To better prepare for strategic planning in 2024, we distributed surveys to paint a more vivid portrait of our YACsters.

We hope you find the survey results as insightful as we did!

In appreciation,

Jesse & Marissa

Data Driven Insights

  • 100% of YACsters reported positive experiences, with 66% citing “social space, mental health, identity, safe, friends, mentors & community” as key benefits.

  • Without YAC, 80% would engage in solitary activities, risking a loss of community.

  • 68% identify as LGBTQIA+ and 37% as Neurodivergent—emphasizing the importance of spaces that foster a strong sense of belonging.

These findings underscore YAC’s continued impact on the lives of our youth, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to improve…

  • 16% seek a more organized space with updated furniture

  • 13% request additional art materials

  • 7% wish for more bonding experiences

  • 3% suggest enhancing diversity & inclusivity, particularly for people of color.

“For me, I feel an extra sense of comfort with being vulnerable. The support YAC has for its members really stands out to me and has definitely added to my sense of how we can help each other as artists but also as regular people.”

—Finn J., YACster since May 2023

Inclusive Innovation: Youth voice drives evolution

At YAC, we firmly believe in the transformative power of young voices in shaping the future, starting with granting them the agency to improve their space.

Your support is instrumental in making our vision a reality. Your generosity will allow us to offer a renovated studio space, inclusive programming, and essential mentorship to the next generation of YACsters.
