Don’t Say Straight Exhibition

In honor of Pride, mentor Paul Richmond has been working with some friends on an exhibition called Don't Say Straight, at the Dali Museum. They wanted to showcase work from over 30 LGBTQ+ artists and allies in all mediums/styles from the Monterey Peninsula. Paul states on his Instagram posts that this is “a diverse group of artists, including painters, sculptors, fashion designers, photographers, and more—are unified in this show under one guiding principle: representation matters.”

This weekend, some YACsters went to visit the show's opening to support both LGBTQ+ artists and our YAC family!

  • YACalum: Caterina Poehner Corazza

  • YACalum & Mentor: Natalia Corazza

  • Mentors: Meg Biddle, Marcia Perry, and Paul Richmond

See this powerful collection June 4–July 31 at Monterey History & Art Association: Salvador Dalí Exhibition, located at 5 Custom House Plaza. The Museum is open daily from 11 am–8 pm. A public reception will take place July 13.

Below is the exhibition statement:

“In response to the surreal wave of legislative attacks against LGBTQ+ people across the country, Don’t Say Straight is a call to action. Attempts to erase our community must be met with resounding and impenetrable queer visibility. Never has diverse representation been more important in all facets of society and culture. This exhibition brings together queer artists and allies from the Monterey Peninsula who stand firmly in their identities and use their creative voices to speak truth - and pride.”
