Iphigenia Phoenix Wilder

I hail from a forested canyon in Carmel Valley, where I do most of my artwork when I’m away from YAC. I am currently a first-year student at Monterey Peninsula College.
As an artist I work digitally and in pencil and ink, although I have recently taken up printmaking. Aside from my artistic aspirations, I am a prolific writer. My art and writing have always been acutely interconnected with one another and with my additional interests (language, photography, etc.)…the stories and worlds I create using these skills provide a way for me to explore my own thoughts and the uncontrollable exterior aspects of my life. Inspiration for my art is deeply rooted in music, the environment, and humanity. As for self-expression, I think each piece I create ends up reflecting regions of my personality that I haven’t familiarized with yet, and perhaps also a shade of whoever I am in the moment.
YAC is a really incredible community to be a part of and the studio is among my favorite places to spend time. Here I am constantly supported by brilliant mentors and talented fellow YACsters in doing art and being kind, trying new things, refining my craft, and locating my own identity…art has never been a bigger part of my life.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read all this! I hope you enjoy the show. :)
