Raven Cook
‘Aubergine’ is the second piece in my “Places I Inhabit” series. For the past year I have been working as a Pastry assistant to Chef Yulanda Santos at Aubergine in Carmel. I have learned so much since starting and I am really grateful for the friends, mentors, memories and new skills I have made there.
‘Kinmedai’ is a Japanese fish that one of my Chefs gifted me that I decided to print in the Japanese, “Gyotaku” method. I pinned the fish to foam core, generously dabbed sumi ink on the fish, placed rice paper over the fish gently rubbing the fish before pulling the paper off. It was a very fun and very stinky process.
I am currently 22 and quickly approaching my end date as a YACster before I turn into an Alum. I’ve been reflecting on the past 10 years of being in such a loving, supportive space and I feel honored for all of the opportunities, friendships, love and support I have received all of these years. Youth Arts Collective is my favorite place to be and I’m so excited to watch YAC evolve.
Thank you for supporting all of us at YAC!
Enjoy the show!
Much love, Raven Cook
