Iphigenia Wilder

Hi, I’m Iphie. I’m a teen artist from Carmel Valley with a history of writing, a present filled with art, and a future in comics. I’ll admit I had grand plans for this year’s fall show at YAC, but alas—this semester, schoolwork hath drowned my creative essence more than ever before. Fortunately, I managed to make time to bring a few of my planned pieces into reality. These five square artworks can’t really be explained as a complete body of work, because they aren’t. They are a basically a collection of my feelings and thoughts during the last few months, manifested in colors and lines. A self-centered menagerie of spirit, if you will. My drawings are the backbone of whatever artistic imagery I create, whether that’s a painting, a print, or even sometimes a photograph. What I am, simply, is a person who draws, and I’m slowly learning to incorporate other elements and media into my drawings to create a more dynamic and atmospheric expression of my original ideas and thoughts. I’m honestly not much of a painter, but working with gouache these last couple of months has been an interesting step away from my usual dependence on inks and leads, and I’m looking forward to experimenting more with it in the future. I’ve worked digitally for around three-and-a-half years now, and printmaking is something I’ve taken up in the last year. I create art for me, and to support YAC, but there is also the goal of putting my art and a little bit of me and my experience out into the world. If any of these works speak to you or catch your eye, my goals have been accomplished. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy the show!
